I spent a good while thinking LocWorld (and indeed other translation industry events) were not for Lingo24. Naively, some might even say arrogantly, I thought our business was different from the types of buyers and sellers of translation technology and services who attended LocWorld. We were, after all, a dot com for the translation industry – a disruptor no less!
My thinking has changed somewhat over the years. We remain innovators in technology (read about our CAT tool, Coach, or our consultancy offering). But we are firmly part of our industry’s conversations – whether they happen at LocWorld or at TAUS, or elsewhere.
When I went to the event for the first time in Paris in 2012 and met an existing customer, it couldn’t have been clearer I was wrong! The lifeblood of our own business was in attendance, as were a wide variety of people who are not only leading thinkers in our field, but great, fun individuals with a native global first outlook. And that’s not even mentioning the tens if not hundreds of translation technology and service users who should really be considering Lingo24!
In the time that has followed, I’ve attended LocWorld regularly in places as close to home as London and as far away as Vancouver. I’ve still not made it to a LocWorld in Asia yet but it’s only a matter of time! I’ve had a chance to present Lingo24’s consultancy, technology and service offerings, but have spent most time learning from those more experienced than me in subjects as diverse as Machine Translation and M&A.
This year, LocWorld Europe will take place in Warsaw in Poland and is themed around that old chestnut, Digital Transformation. Ulrich Henes, Founder and President of The Localization Institute, has kindly invited me to be a host at the event for the first time.
If you have been translating for some time but are looking to get more strategic about the way in which you do it, I have two bits of advice. The first is to consider Lingo24’s Localisation Strategy Assessment. The second is to join me in Warsaw for a proper conversation surrounded by some of the finest minds in this industry.
Please do let me know if you’d like to meet me and/or my colleague Anna MacMartin there.
